Dozens of Alumni of all University in Indonesian incorperated in the Alumni Family Association (IKA) participated in the declaration of nationality against radicalism, which took place at AAC Dayan Dawood Building, Syiah Kuala University (Unsyiah), Wednesday (12/20). This activity aims to invite and cultivate the awareness of alumni to play an active role in preventing radicalism, especially in the state universities environment.
Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni Unsyiah, Dr. Ir. Alfiansyah Yulianur, BC., Said the declaration of nationality is important because the threat to Pancasila has become more significant in recent years. Moreover, some tenet that forbidden in this state has entered to the line of life including in education world. But according to Alfiansyah, all this forbidden knowledge can be fortified by way of understanding and believing religious teachings well. Unsyiah also has applied it by trying to bring a true understanding of religion to the students through Islamic education program UP3AI since the first semester.
"While out there the understanding of religious values is fading, but by returning to the Qur'an, Insya Allah terrorism, communism, and radicalism have no chance to develop," Alfiansyah said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of Aceh, Nova Iriansyah, said the challenge of development in Indonesia today is not only the globalization, but also the actions that undermine the ideology of Pancasila and the value of diversity. He invites the whole community to jointly strengthen the ideology of the nation, because it is a shared responsibility. Moreover at this time, there are many groups that try to undermine the national values so that it can cause Indonesia to split.
"The role of academics and universities is needed as a driving force to strengthen the spirit of nationalism," he said.
The event was attended by alumni from several universities in Bali, Jakarta, Sumatera, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, Kalimantan and Aceh. At the end of the activity the alumni expressed their attitude and the joint pledge that took place in front of Unsyiah Bureau Building and the release of 1,000 red and white balloons.
