A total of 138 students from Nursing Faculty Syiah Kuala University (FKep Unsyiah) provided health education in Aceh Jaya Regency, October 8-10, 2018. This activity is part of the Unsyiah Integrated Social Service held in the district to enliven the 57th anniversary of the Unsyiah campus.
Dean of FKep Unsyiah who is also Chairperson of the Social Service Committee, Dr. Hajjul Kamil, S.Kp., M.Kep., Said this activity was the initiation of FKep students who were members of the Community Awareness Nursing Movement. This activity is routinely held every year and has entered sixth time.
Hajjul added that the Gempar activity was concentrated in three Aceh Jaya villages, namely Pante Cermin Village, Sabet Village, and Pasar Lamno Village. Activities focused on providing health education to school students, pregnant and lactating mothers, Open Defecation Free (ODF) counseling and mental health, and ended with mass treatment for the surrounding community. The students were divided into several health teams placed in several locations in the village.
He hopes, this activity can be an effective means of educating the community, while at the same time fostering a good understanding of living a healthy life. Moreover, according to him, there are still many people who are negligent in maintaining health. He took the example of poor environmental sanitation management, causing negative impacts on life.
"Healthy life can be presented from small and simple things in everyday life," he said.
In addition to providing health counseling, Unsyiah in this year's integrated service program also held 87 activities during October 7-12. This activity involved 12 faculties, 3 work units, and hundreds of Unsyiah students which took place in several districts of Aceh Jaya.
This integrated social service is the third time implemented by Unsyiah. Before that, the oldest campus in Aceh had implemented it in Gayo Lues and Pidie Jaya Regencies.
