Unsyiah Create Electric Pedicab

The Malem Diwa team of the Engineering Faculty, Syiah Kuala University re-innovate by creating an electric rickshaw Type BC-L01. The launch of an electric pedicab was witnessed by Unsyiah Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Samsul Rizal M.Eng and General Manager of PLN Aceh Jefri Rosiadi in front of Central Administration Office (KPA) Unsyiah. (Thursday, 5/31).

Rector said that this electric pedicab is the result of cooperation between Unsyiah with PLN Aceh Region. Where PLN provides funding support while the process of making its electric becak iwas implemented by Malem Diwa Team.

"Unsyiah is very grateful for the trust from PLN related to this cooperation. Because after all this trust is the most valuable, "said Rector.

According to Rector, the innovation of electric pedicab is part of devotion of Unsyiah to society. For that reason, Rector hoped that the electric pedicab could become an environmentally friendly transportation model especially for Banda Aceh people.

"Unsyiah strongly supports innovation such as electric pedicab, because the most important thing we can produce something useful for society," said Rector.

In addition, the Rector assessed the electric car is also strongly support the world of tourism in Aceh. Because most tourists are very interested in the original products of an area.

Jefri Rosiadi revealed that the plan to create this pedicab machine has been implemented by PLN and Unsyiah for three months, from design to manufacture. The plan, electric pedicab type BC-L01 this is the initial stage.

"This is the first launching type, there will be a second type. That time will be more we perfect again, "he said.

Jefri rate, this electric pedicab is very potential to be marketed. The reason, in addition to environmentally friendly because there is no pollution at all, this electric pedicab also requires energy that is very efficient.

"If we calculate, the charging of this pedicab only five hours, and only takes Rp. 6 - 10 thousand when compared with gasoline or pertamax. So it is very efficient, "said Jefri.

Vice Dean I of Engineering Faculty, Dr. Iskandar, ST.M.Eng.Sc revealed that the electric becak is made by Malem Diwa Unsyiah Team consisting of students, labors and lecturers. These electric pedicab is capable to running at a maximum speed of 40 KM / Hr, and covering a distance of 35-40 KM with load. As for the power use 12 Volt batteries as much as 5 units. The advantages of this electric car is green energy, ergonomics design and innovative design.

"Furthermore, this electric pedicab will be handed over to the union of engine pedicab in Banda Aceh to be socialized," said Iskandar.

Previously, Malem Diwa Unsyiah team has managed to create some innovation products both electric car Malem Diwa 0.1, and solar powered cars. All these innovations have also successfully achieved the achievements of various competitions both in overseas and abroad.

At this launch the PLN Aceh also handed over scholarships to Unsyiah students for the final assignment of Rp. 20 million. Also attending the event were Vice Rector I Unsyiah Prof. Dr. Ir. Marwan.
