Unsyiah Graduated 1,515 Graduates

Syiah Kuala University (Unsyiah) graduated 1,515 graduates for May-July 2017 period at AAC Dayan Dawood Building, Darussalam, Banda Aceh, Wednesday (8/23). About 737 students graduated on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, while 778 students graduated on Thursday, August 24, 2017.

In his speech, Rector Unsyiah Prof. Dr. Ir. Samsul Rizal MEng revealed, currently Indonesia's competitiveness in the economic world is still quite weak. According to a World Economic Forum report in The Global Competitiveness Report year 2016-2017, Indonesia ranked 41st in the list of world competitiveness ratings. This ranking is decreased four levels compared last year, even less than other ASEAN countries.

"As the ASEAN free market opens, competition and workplace demands are higher. Therefore, we invite alumni to change their paradigm, from only a job seekers to become job creators, "said Prof. Samsul.

One area that can create jobs is the entrepreneurship field. According to Prof. Samsul, this field is very promising financially. Moreover after the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community the potential of entrepreneurial consumers can reach up to 625 million people.

"Therefore, the graduates should not linger late in the euphoria of the study success. Plan after plan must be explored, otherwise you will stay and be excluded from the competition, "said Rector Unsyiah.

Prof Samsul explained, with this graduation ceremony, then the total number of graduates from undergraduate, professional, specialist, postgraduate level that has been generated by Unsyiah amounted to 88,402 people. While the number of diploma graduates from various disciplines as many as 25,727 people. Overall the number of alumni Unsyiah has reached 114,129 people.

"Unsyiah gave high appreciation to 258 graduates who successfully graduated with cum laude (praise)," he said.

He revealed, this number has increased relative since Unsyiah set high standards for cumlaude graduates. Since last year, Unsyiah set cumlaude criteria for students who graduated in eight semesters, did not repeat the course, and have a cumulative grade index above 3.51. It aims to present a more competitive academic atmosphere so as to present graduates who are able to compete in the world of work.
