Unsyiah Held Tennis Tournament

Syiah Kuala University (Unsyiah) held the tennis tournament which competed for the Rector Cup. The tournament was held on October 4-7, 2018 at the Unsyiah Tennis Court.

Deputy Chancellor I Unsyiah, Prof. Dr. Ir. Marwan, at the opening on Thursday (10/5) said the tennis tournament was held again by Unsyiah after 10 years of vacuuming. In addition to enlivening the 57th Unsyiah milad, the tournament was held again to look for potential seeds of tennis players from among students.

"Unsyiah continues to be committed to reviving the tennis tournament, in addition to finding players from lecturers and students," he said.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive, Dr. Rer. Nat Ilham Maulana, said the tournament was competing for a total prize of Rp. 30 million. The tournament was attended by 49 male singles athletes and 19 men's double pairs. Participants who attended came from all city districts in Aceh, as well as from Medan and Jakarta.

"This tournament is not only intended as a sports competition, but also Unsyiah's efforts to appreciate sports achievements, especially Acehnese children," said Ilham.

He also hopes that this activity can become a gathering place for tennis players from various regions, so that it can foster enthusiasm in building this sport.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Banda Aceh, Aminullah Usman, who was also present at the opening of the tournament, appreciated this activity. Because according to him, the presence of this tournament indirectly brings economic impact and tourism activities for the city of Banda Aceh. Moreover, this activity was also attended by athletes from outside the city. He took in several countries that managed to increase tourism activities through tennis tournaments. For this reason, he hopes that someday, this tournament can be held larger which involves many athletes from all over Indonesia.
