Rector of Syiah Kuala University Prof. Dr. Ir. Samsul Rizal, M.Eng launched a number of new innovative products from the Atsiri Research Center (ARC) -PUIPT Patchouli Aceh. The product, which is a derivative of patchouli oil, was introduced to the public virtually from the Unsyiah ARC Office. (Banda Aceh, 8/13/2020).
The ARC innovation product is the development of a new variant of patchouli oil derivative product, namely Parfume Neelam with Janna and Jeumpa variants. The Jeumpa variant uses a blend of pure Acehnese Bungong Jeumpa oil. Then U-Hansa, Hand and Body Wash, Alkina Care Medicated Oil and Body Butter.
All of these products have their own advantages. For example, Perfume Neelam contains Hi-Grade patchouli oil and can last for 12 hours. Likewise U-Hansa, which has been formulated according to WHO and BPOM standards. This hand sanitizer and disinfectant product contains food grade ethanol.
Meanwhile, Butter products are very suitable for dry skin because this product contains PCA sodium as an antiaging agent and vitamin E as an antioxidant. Just like U Hansa, this butter product is made with patchouli oil as raw material which has been fractionated into an antibacterial component.
In his speech, rector said, Unsyiah was very proud of the success of a number of innovative products from ARC. Remembering to produce a product certainly requires a long time and research. ARC's hard work has indirectly helped to introduce Unsyiah both at the national and international levels.
For this reason, rector hopes that the presence of this innovative product will be a sign of the revival of Aceh patchouli as has happened in the past.
"This is our common commitment, so that Aceh patchouli can develop again with cooperation from all parties. So that it can break the chain of poverty in Aceh, "he said.
Meanwhile the Chairman of ARC Dr. Syaifullah, ST, M.Eng explained, in the last three years, ARC Unsyiah has experienced significant developments. Even in 2020, despite being in a pandemic condition, ARC has made several important achievements. Among other things, this Study Center won a grant from the Center for Excellence in Higher Education Science and Technology (PUIPT) for the second year. Then the National Research Priority (PRN) grant for the antioxidant and antiaging components of patchouli oil.
"Currently, ARC is also running two programs with Bank Indonesia, namely the local economic development program in Ranto Sabon, Aceh Jaya and the preparation of a road map for the acceleration of the patchouli business in Aceh," he said.
In addition, said Syaifullah, right today ARC has succeeded in obtaining a distribution permit for its products from the Ministry of Health. The process of obtaining this permit has been going on for a long time with various requirements and bureaucracy that is not easy.
"With the issuance of this distribution license, there is no need for doubts both about the handsanitizer and disenfectant from ARC. ARC is ready to supply Hand Sanitizers and Disinfectants throughout Aceh. Because it already has adequate production machines. So that the desired quantity and quality can be met, "concluded Syaifullah.
