Students who are members of the Student Executive Board (BEM) of FISIP Syiah Kuala University which is incorporated in the Alliance of BEM FISIP in Sumatra and BEM of FISIP in Aceh, submitted a memorandum of understanding to the Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Dr. Sofyan A. Djalil, S.H., M.A., M.ALD. This submission was also witnessed by Vice Rector I Unsyiah Prof. Dr. Marwan at the Hermes Palace Hotel, Banda Aceh. (2/21/2020).
The Sumatran BEM of FISIP General Coordinator Teuku Rizza Muly explained that the memorandum of understanding was the result of discussions from the Sumatra FISIP BEM Conference held on February 12-16, 2020 in Unsyiah.
The Sumatra BEM of FISIP Conference was held for the first time at Sriwijaya University in 2015. The second conference was held in 2016 at Padang State University. In 2020, BEM of FISIP Unsyiah, Aspiration Karya cabinet was appointed to host the third conference.
The results of this third conference resulted in a Memorandum of Understanding. It contained several issues which became the focal point of the results of the discussion. Among other things, agrarian conflicts, human rights violations and health. Where these issues outline the problems that occur in Sumatra.
Teuku Rizza Muly asserted, they has committed to oversee these 3 issues for the next 1 year with the headline "Sovereign Sumatra" movement.
"We will guard the movement to oversee this issue with friends of FISIP students throughout Sumatra for the next 1 year. We will study these 3 issues and hold hearings with related agencies," he said.
In addition, they are also committed to overseeing the completion of the three issues. For this reason, the results of this discussion can be followed up by the relevant Ministries and Agencies. This Memorandum of Understanding was signed by 12 BEM FISIP Universities in Sumatra.
