Syiah Kuala University delivered a number of Corona Virus handling programs (Covid-19) to the Directorate General of Higher Education (Dirjen Dikti). This was conveyed through a video conference throughout the State and Private Universities in Aceh, together with the Acting Director General of Higher Education Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc, DIC, PhD in the Unsyiah Rector Mini Room. (Banda Aceh, 4/17/2020).
The video conference with the theme, "Gathering of PTN / PTS in Aceh in promoting the synergy of Higher Education in Aceh to prevent Covid-19", presented 110 participants. They consisted of the Rector of PTN / PTS, Head of the Higher Education Service Institution (LLDikti) Region XIII Aceh, as well as the Dean and senior lecturer Unsyiah.
Unsyiah initiated this video conference to equalize the perception among higher education stakeholders in Aceh. Specifically related to the service and role of universities during the Covid-19 emergency response period.
On that occasion, Rector Unsyiah Prof. Dr. Ir. Samsul Rizal, M. Eng explained, since the outbreak of the corona virus, Unsyiah immediately took several preventive measures to prevent its spread. In addition, Unsyiah was also actively involved in supporting the government in dealing with this outbreak.
This effort consists in academic and non-academic fields. In the academic field Unsyiah applies online learning (lectures / seminars), issues the Covid-19 prevention protocol, refocuses the budget, conducts applied research / studies.
While in the non-academic field, Unsyiah prepared the Covid-19 test laboratory, prepared Prince Nayef Hospital for emergency hospitals, produced and delivered Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), conducted advocacy and education to the community, provided recommendations to the Government of Aceh, prepared health workers and fundraising.
"As a tertiary institution, the role of Unsyiah in this kind of epidemic is very important. Everything Unsyiah is doing is our endeavor so that this epidemic ends soon, "he said.
In this video conference, Prof. Nizam expressed his appreciation for the efforts that Unsyiah has made, including other PTN / PTS in Aceh in dealing with Covid-19.
Prof. Nizam also said that the Ministry of Education and Culture gave the widest possible authority to take the most optimal policies, to PTN / PTS during this pandemic. For example, shorten the period of study semesters, bureaucratic services and others.
"The Ministry gives the broadest authority to universities according to the condition of each PTN / PTS, because at present our principle is the safety of the academic community," he said.
In this activity, several other university leaders also shared the program, as well as the efforts they had made in dealing with Covid-19. Seeing this active role, Prof. Nizam also hopes that all universities in Aceh can become pioneers in the field of research or studies related to this pandemic.
