Unsyiah together with 11 universities from the sub-regional Indonesia Malaysia Thailand Triangle Growth (IMT-GT) took part in enlivening the 21st IMT GT Varsity Carnival which took place at the Walailak University auditorium, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, Thailand, Saturday (8/24) night. This activity is part of the 21st IMT-GT series which took place at the campus, August 23-28, 2019.
In addition to Unsyiah, other Indonesian campuses involved were the University of North Sumatra, Medan State University, and Institute of Technology Medan. While from Malaysia, North Malaysia University, Perlis University, Kedah University and the Mara Technology Institute. While from Thailand are Prince of Songkhla University, Thaksin University, Rajamenggala Srivijaya University, and Walailak University.
The Chief Representative of the Republic Indonesia in Songkhla, Fachry Sulaiman said that the carnival was a place to promote and introduce Indonesian culture to the world, especially in the IMT-GT region. The dynamic campus world, according to him, is the right location to convey information about Indonesia. Moreover, students can play a role as ambassadors of culture and friendship through the fields they pursue, both in the fields of science, technology, sports, and social culture.
"Getting to know each other in the young age is one of capital for students to develop networking, especially in the IMT-GT region," he said, Monday (8/26).
Chairman of the Unsyiah Contingent, Dr. Alfiansyah Yulinur BC, said that at this year's IMT GT meeting, Unsyiah sent 72 people consisting of athletes, officials, and vice deans. In the field of arts and culture, Unsyiah representatives performed trawl dances, jamee breeders, guel dances, and contemporary dances. While in the field of sports, Unsyiah will compete in five branches of competition, namely soccer, badminton, tennis, volleyball, and fun run. Alfiansyah also added that in 2020 Unsyiah will be the host of the 22nd IMT-GT meeting.
