Unsyiah Invent Portable Sinks to Keep Community Hygiene

Syiah Kuala University continues to make preventive efforts to break the chain of corona virus (Convid-19). One way is to provide a sink facility called Portable Sink (WP) to improve public hygiene. (Banda Aceh, 3/24/2020).

This innovation was presented by Vice Rector I Unsyiah Prof. Dr. Marwan to Vice Rector III Unsyiah Dr. Ir. Alfiansyah Yulianur BC, to be placed in the Unsyiah Dormitory. Where the submission was witnessed by the Chairman of LPPM Unsyiah Prof. Dr. Taufik Fuadi Abidin, S.Sc., M.Tech, Head of UPT Boarding Unsyiah Drs. Amiruddin, M. Kes and Teuku Reza Ferasyi, Ph.D and Dr. Safrizal from the Unsyiah Covid-19 Task Force Team.

On that occasion, Dr. Akhyar, ST., MP., M. Eng as the Chairperson of the innovation product team explained that this portable sink is the source of funds from the Grants of Research and Community Services (LPPM) Unsyiah.

This Portable Sink product is made at the Unsyiah Mechanical Engineering Workshop and is the first product of several versions to be developed according to the needs of users later. Besides himself, there are two other Unsyiah researchers involved in creating this product, Dr. Ir. M. Dirhamsyah, M.T and Muhammad Tadjuddin, ST, M.Eng.Sc. including the support of alumni and students. The plan for this portable sink will be placed in public spaces such as markets, terminals, airports, ports, orphanages, boarding schools and other public places.

"The estimated needs of the Portable Sink for the City of Banda Aceh and Surrounding Areas are around 30 to 40 pieces scattered in public spaces. So we hope this innovation can really help the community, "he said.

But for the time being, this sink is only available at the Unsyiah Putra and Putri Dormitory. Even so, some outsiders have ordered this product. For example, the Aceh National Disaster Management Agency (BPBA) is 5 units, then the oil company Medco is 10 units.

"In addition, the Acting Governor of Aceh also requested that this portable sink be placed in the lobby of the Governor's Office as an example," Akhyar said.

Meanwhile Prof. Marwan really appreciated the innovation from this Unsyiah researcher. Especially in the midst of a corona virus outbreak that has claimed quite a lot of lives. According to Prof. Marwan, with the availability of this sink indirectly encourages people to always improve their hygiene so they can keep off from Covid-19.
