Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh, through Unsyiah Press published a collection of students' stories entitled "Reaching the Wish to Realize the Dreams of the Bidikmisi Fighters". This book contains dozens of stories written by Unsyiah students who are scholarship recipients of Bidikmisi who incidentally are outstanding students and come from underprivileged families.
Unsyiah Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Samsul Rizal, M. Eng said, the publication of this book is part of the literacy stretch that is being activated by Unsyiah. The campus continued, trying to always accommodate all the creativity of its members, including students. He also hopes that the presence of this book can inspire those who want to continue their tertiary education, especially for those who come from disadvantaged families.
"This book teaches us that limitations are not a reason to stop pursuing dreams and ideals," the Rector said.
Head of the Unsyiah Student and Alumni Bureau, Dr. Mustafa Sabri as the initiator said the idea to craate this book originated from his activities in the Unsyiah Student Affairs Bureau during the selection process of the prospective scholarship recipients ranging from administrative selection to field verification to the home concerned. During this process he saw how complex the lives of these students who had been shackled by poverty. Education will be a light for them to get out of these conditions.
"For example, when the interview process took place there were students who burst into tears while expressing their desire to go to college, but were constrained by costs. Finally I think, the stories behind this table should be known by the public as one source of inspiration in the field of education, "Mustafa said, Monday (6/29/2020).
Mustafa said, the process of the birth of this book is fairly long. Starting with the selection of manuscripts in the thousands by editors led by two young Acehnese editors Ihan Nurdin and Hayatullah Pase to choose fifty best stories. Furthermore, the students whose stories were selected were given a briefing by the editor to complete the story in accordance with the lattices that have been determined to match expectations.
"We are very pleased to be able to initiate and publish this book so that the stories of these inspiring students reach the hands of readers," he said.
This book contains 42 stories of students who told the process of their struggle to be able to sit on a bench in college, especially to become Unsyiah students. Their stories are very diverse, there are students whose parents are victims of conflict, victims of the tsunami, until students who until they are adults do not know the whereabouts of their parents. Stories that stir emotions and feelings.
"Hopefully the presence of this book can benefit all of us while opening our inner space to see this complex world from various angles. That way our presence becomes more meaningful. For those who are interested in having this book as a collection, you can contact the Unsyiah Press at 0852-7654-2729, "he said.
