Unsyiah Won The IMT-GT Varsity Carnival

Syiah Kuala University won the overall championship at the 21st Indonesia Malaysia Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Varsity Carnival which took place at Walailak University, Thailand, August 23-28, 2019. Unsyiah defeated 11 other universities involved in annual activities this.

Head of the contingent who is also Vice Rector III Unsyiah, Dr. Alfiansyah Yulianur BC said, Unsyiah won a gold medal in soccer, tennis and fun run. While the silver medal was obtained from badminton. In addition, in the field of arts and culture Unsyiah managed to get the title of The Best Promising Group. With this acquisition, the Unsyiah contingent succeeded in outperforming other universities and dominated the acquisition of medals from contested branches.

"This success is the outcome from Unsyiah teams hard work, especially students who have struggled to the maximum," he said, Wednesday (8/28).

Alfian added, this year Unsyiah sent 72 people consisting of athletes, officials, and vice deans III for student affairs as assistants. Unsyiah students competed in soccer, badminton, tennis, volleyball and fun run competitions. While in the arts and culture category, the Unsyiah team presented five performances, namely trawl dance, peumulia jamee dance, guel dance, contemporary dance, and presentations on Aceh's cultural arts. In addition, the Unsyiah seminar team also presented local wisdom.

Unsyiah Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Samsul Rizal, M. Eng., Appreciated the Unsyiah team's achievements. What's more this is the second year Unsyiah was involved throughout the event. This success is an encouragement for Unsyiah community to continue to grow this college.

"Even though Unsyiah has only been involved in IMT-GT for two years, we have managed to achieve achievements and outperform other campuses," he said.

Rector also confirmed that next year Unsyiah was appointed to host the 22nd IMT-GT. According to him, this achievement became the first step as a good host.

Besides Unsyiah, the Indonesian campuses involved were the University of North Sumatra, Medan State University, and the Institute of Technology Medan. While from Malaysia, North Malaysia University, Perlis University, Kedah University and the Mara Technology Institute.
